Resale of domain names
20. Resale of domain names
The domain aftermarket conducts the resale of previously registered domain names within an arena all its own. The domain aftermarket is influenced by a number of different factors, which in turn also influence the perceived market value of the domain. The factors include the natural traffic that is earned with web surfers typing in a domain name for the site through a search engine and the ability to have a term recognized as a brand. The other factors include the domain’s re-sale value and the ability to spot trends and predict the value of a name.
This can be done by considering it’s length and commercial use. A number of generic domain names have become increasingly popular in the last decade. Domains related to business, gambling or pornography or any other commercial field are enjoying a demand stressed upon by corporations and entrepreneurs in the quest to attract clients. In fact, interestingly the most expensive Internet domain name to date is on record as ‘porn.com’. The deal closed in 2007 for $9.5 million!
